Sharon Barber, R.M.
My passion for midwifery began with the birth of our third baby born at home into the hands of a midwife. Abbotsford has been my home community since 1987 when my husband Sean and I moved here from Alberta with our 3 young children.
My educational background includes a Bachelors of Midwifery Degree from UBC in 2005 and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and Anthropology from SFU in 2001. I served as a La Leche Leader for many years in Alberta. I also provide teaching for the UBC faculty of Medicine, Division of Midwifery.
I am passionate about childbirth and believe that this unique event in the life of a woman and her family is one that deserves to be respected and honoured. I believe pregnancy and childbirth is a healthy normal physiological process and I look forward to meeting with you to provide care within a philosophical framework of informed choice. It gives me enormous pleasure to witness the miracle of birth time and time again. I really have the best job I could ever have imagined!
When I'm not catching babies I enjoy spending time on the Sunshine Coast, hiking, kayaking, relaxing and hanging out with my amazing ever growing family!
